What does seeing a psychologist involve?
Booking a session with a psychologist can be a daunting task. You might be motivated to address an issue, but feel nervous talking to a stranger. However, many clients find it easier to speak with a stranger who is unconditionally kind and willing to listen to their problems.
Latika assures potential clients that she will listen to you in a non-judgmental manner. Email her and she will call you back to discuss the benefits of making an appointment. If you decide to proceed, Latika will offer you an available appointment.
Before your first session with Latika, please complete a questionnaire (linked below) This will provide Latika with information about your goals for therapy. Some clients may benefit from the government medicare rebate system. To be eligible for the rebate, please visit your GP and bring your GP referral to your first session with Latika.

Most clients who have sought psychological assistance say that they wish they had made appointments years before they actually did! Research indicates psychotherapy is beneficial when it is applied at an earlier stage. Most clients seek help when they want to reduce psychological distress and to change dysfunctional behavioural patterns. Therapy enables a person's self-discovery and empowers one to make effective and lasting changes.
How many sessions will it take?
It depends...on the issue, on your goals, on what is obstructiong change etc. Please let Latika know if your commitment to therapy is financially restricted to medicare rebates. If this is the case and if Latika assesses that long-term therapy (more than 12 sessions) is required, she will discuss alternative lower cost options to ensure you are able to receive ongoing psychological assistance. The therapeutic relationship between client and psychologist is essential to the healing process and thus it is advisable disruption to therapy does not occur due to financial reasons.
When an issue has been present for a few years, it may take more than 12 sessions. If your commitment to treatment is dependent on medicare rebates, then it is important to discuss how this will affect long-term treatment.
